Daydream transports the dreamer outside the immediate world to a word that bears the mark of infinity.

Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Space

This is the very start of a new photographic series exploring themes of home, memory and imagination. In his book The Poetics of Space (which I highly recommend and cannot say enough good things about), Gaston Bachelard speaks extensively of daydreams. It is his idea that every home we have lived in and will live in come together to form the house of our daydreams, a house that is constructed of both memories and imagination. I seek to give a physical appearance to such a home by combing specific memories with stereotypes, expectations and idealizations of place. I am taking on the role of contractor within my dreams, laying bricks and building walls. These are the first three images; I look forward to a summer of constructing the rest.
