Arizona III.

This past December my roommate and I flew to Arizona, the desert and quite possibly our futures. You can read more about the trip on The Hive (our travel blog), but for those of you more interested in imagery, below you will find the 35mm I shot while on this whirlwind adventure. Enjoy! Part I. Part …

Beautiful Yet Tragic.

It was the best of times; it was the worst of times. I finally get it, the time my Aunt Lesa said she'd redo her thirties in a heartbeat, but had zero desire to do over her twenties. Life is good, so good. But it is so incredibly hard at the same damn time. I …

Something New.

The last day of 2016 was the best day and the first day of 2017 was the best day and I pray to God that they come together to set the precedent for what will be the best year yet. I spent my last hours of the old year and the first of the new …

A Great Year For Life.

Almost titled: What it was like to be an artist for Kaitlyn Jo Smith in 2016.. Here it is, the comprehensive, everything I've done in 2016 blog post, more for my reference than yours. It seems like just last week I was writing 2015's post and as predicted 2016 was a year of intense growth and …

With each passing year, I am …

Alchemists.

We have finally begun pulling together the imagery from our collaboration this past October. Read more on The Hive and be on the lookout for updates.

THE HIVE

Mostly I love this support system of other woman artists who are just as passionate about their craft as I, who are honest, loving and supportive, who ask why but never how. These ladies believe in my dreams as much as they believe in their own. It is such an honor to be a bee, incredible to follow alongside their creative endeavors.

A few months back we documented a collaborative piece. Six bees went down to the river and baptized one another in the name of art, of photography and of those who came before us. On a brisk Sunday afternoon, late October, we became the film: encased in darkness, exposed to light for the briefest of moments, back into the darkness to be washed before permanently entering the light. Film development…

Erika Got Married.

Erika got married and in true Kaitlyn Jo Smith style I rolled up with a potted plant and a disposable camera. Here are the images in case you don't quite remember. Cheers to the Kirians!

Fuzzy Little Butterfly.

I made this image months ago, and there it sat, without so much as a one star rating, in a folder on my hard drive. It was a swing and a miss, a photograph I had zero intentions to edit, dust and share. Yet, five months later, scrolling through old files, it stopped me in my …
